These recommendations are for general guidance; specific requirements of an application may require selection of an alternate material. In through-hole work, a lower quality material may be adequate, where in a small blind cavity, a better grade would be preferred.

Where more than one electrode material class is shown, the order of preference is top to bottom.

The particular EDM machine used can have a significant influence on the way an electrode material performs.
